A new feature for “marry me monday” is a venue spotlight! Every month I’ll be featuring a venue of a ceremony or reception that I loved working with and hope to work with again in the future. First up in this series is the Ultimate Skybox in Downtown San Diego! Catering to the urban, modern, classic downtown crowd, this venue gives you a gorgeous glimpse of the San Diego nightlife. Your guests will enjoy the food, view and ambiance of the scenic top level. Monika and Joe chose this venue for their ceremony and reception last year! It fit perfect for their Old Hollywood & Art Deco theme. See a few pics below for a glimpse of their wedding!

I love Maui. I love weddings. I love being a match maker. I love Melissa and Brandon. What do these things all have in common (besides that I love them all)? Brandon and Melissa will be getting married in Maui this summer and I just so happen to get to photograph it! AND this is the first time I actually get to say that I introduced a couple who eventually got married! You see, Melissa has been a close friend of mine for many years…pretty much ever since I moved to San Diego. She is one of the sweetest, kindest, spunkiest (yep, it’s a word), prettiest and lovely girls I know. So that tells you I won’t introduce her to just ANYONE. She deserves the best. A man who will be by her side through anything and will love her to the moon and back. Brandon is just that person. I met Brandon a few years ago while working at Upper Deck. As I got to know him better, I knew that he was one of the nicest guys I’d ever met and would be a good match for my friend, Mel. Just about four years ago, as the Padres season was just underway, Brandon invited me and another co-worker/friend, Gabriel, to a game. There was one extra ticket and I decided to invite Melissa. You see where this is going, right? Well I have to say they hit it off right away, he asked for her number and they never looked back. I’m so happy for my dear friends and very much looking forward to their big day in MAUI!!!!

Since this is where they first met, it was only fitting to shoot their engagement photos inside Petco Park! Luckily Brandon has some connections with the Padres (THANKS NICK!) and received full access to the empty ballpark. It’s not something that happens everyday, so we took full advantage and had a fabulous time!

After all of the photos of delectable food and sweets that you may have seen on my Facebook page, I think it’s about time I explain my involvement with Savor San Diego! What is Savor San Diego, you ask? Well, it’s an up and coming online food magazine for the San Diego area that, over the last 6 months, has grown tremendously and made a name for itself in the local “foodie” scene. With a desire to share their own food adventures, as well as feature top-rated restaurants, chefs and entrepreneurs, Savor offers current reviews on local cuisine and feature videos with standout chefs such as Brian Malarkey. After watching their featured videos, you may recognize the talents of FortyOneTwenty. These are the talented guys who I not only share an office with, but are also credited with creating the vision for Savor San Diego along with our good friend, Vy Baker, who is the Editor-in-Chief. They’ve established a valuable and trusted source for local foodies and, at the same time, shown off the talents of local restaurants through their kick ass videos. Oh and how am I involved? I get to come along on video shoots to eat cookies, sample yummy food and take a few photos here and there. Tough job, huh?

So now that you know all about Savor San Diego, check out these behind the scenes photos! The second video created for Savor was at The Cravory. Can you say COOKIES? This was pretty much my dream come true and someplace I would love to work if I wasn’t a photographer!

kristy + brian + baby! {la jolla, ca}

I just can’t get over how cute these two are. And their baby?? I think she is going to be adorable as well. She should be here any day now, so it’s about time I showed you their maternity pics. I knew Kristy & I would hit it off from the start because she’s a native Oregonian (like me). And even better is that they both met up in college at Oregon State! I’m definitely a fan of these two and now I’m a fan of the San Diego Sockers since Brian is one of their star players! So you’ll see why we incorporated a little soccer into some of these.

Can you believe Kristy is less than a month from her due date in these photos?? Beautiful!

Hey everyone! Happy Monday!! Welcome to week 3 of my new “marry me monday” blog posts! This week I’m going to take a little break from photos and share a little inspiration for all you brides out there. I know that many of you know what Pinterest is…but maybe were a late adopter, like myself. I heard about Pinterest back in September or so, but just couldn’t imagine adding one more social site to my busy schedule. I knew it would have good information to share, but I just didn’t have the time to commit. However, once the new year rolled around, I couldn’t resist. I joined Pinterest. I started a few “boards” and it was over from there. I wouldn’t say I’m obsessed with it and don’t check it all day, everyday, but I will say that it has some amazing ideas for weddings, parties, photos, recipes and recipes and recipes. I feel like this is the best place for your wedding inspiration when it comes to dresses, decor, colors, displays, food, flowers and photos. Here’s a quick look at one of my photography boards…nothing crazy, just a few photos and ideas that I thought were my style and wanted to share with others:

There are a few important details and sensitive copyright subjects among the Pinterest crowd when it comes to photography and getting “pinned”. But, I think it is an amazing inspiration for brides, wives, moms, bloggers, photographers, etc. I’m definitely NOT an expert, but here are a few things to keep in mind when “pinning” your faves:

Tip #1 – make sure you can get back to the original source of a post before you “repin” a link. It’s important to give credit where credit is due and the origin of the post, recipe, photo stays in tact. If you click a link to the photo and it brings you to a blank page or google, try to find the original source to pin or don’t pin it at all. Be on the look out for websites who have the “Pin It” button in their blog posts (like mine!) which makes it so much easier to get credit for your work and “Pin” appropriately.

Tip #2 – if you’re a bride, create a board(s) specifically for your wedding inspiration and style. As your wedding photographer, you’ve chosen me for a reason…my style, artistic ability, personality, etc. So now that we have that in common, I’m able to see what you like and what your vision is for your engagement session, wedding theme, decor, etc. We are both getting to know each other through your pin boards…win win!

Tip #3 – don’t get too overwhelmed. Pinterest will give you a lot of ideas. Many times that can be overwhelming, but as long as you have a clear vision for your wedding day and stick to what style represents your love, you’re good to go.

Tip #4 – have fun with it! How can you not, right?? Pinterest is such a great tool for inspiration/creativity for your wedding, new home, new marriage, new baby and beyond! Enjoy this time of casting the vision not only for your wedding, but your new life as husband and wife!!

Welcome to week #2 of “Marry Me Monday”…the day of the week where I’ll be sharing any and all things wedding related. Today is a quick look at the engagement session I shot last week at the home of the San Diego Padres. If you’re any sort of sports fan like myself, have you ever thought of what it would be like to have the stadium all to yourself?? Well, last week I got that chance. The chance to shoot Melissa & Brandon’s engagement session at the very spot where they met…so it was only fitting to do their engagement session at Petco Park. I have so much more to share about this session, but wanted to give you a peek at our fun afternoon at the ballpark…

spring mini sessions!

Can you believe it’s SPRING already?? Wow, where does the time go?? If you are reading this from Oregon (shout out to the PacNW!), are you loving the SNOW right now? Sorry, cruel mention for those of us in sunny San Diego. Anyway, since the time does go by so fast and it will be Summer before you know it, I’ve decided to do Spring Mini-Sessions for the first time EVER! They are such a big hit before the holidays, so I wanted to give you all a chance to get some updated family photos before Summer arrives…which will be perfect timing for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day!

Another reason for these mini sessions is that I’ll only be taking a LIMITED number of family photo sessions from June-September. ALL of my clients are very important to me and I want to give you all my most undivided attention and best service possible, even during busy seasons. Since wedding season is just around the corner and I’ll be traveling at least once a month, I want to make sure I’m in the best position possible to take care of my brides throughout the Summer and Fall. The GOOD thing about this for all my family clients is that you have the opportunity to take advantage of my MINI SESSION RATES (see below) before your crazy summer vacation schedule sets in AND you’ll have amazing family photos to show off at the annual family reunion. Don’t worry, if you’ve already contacted me for your newborn session, you’re good to go, but if you are looking for a Summer session, please contact me ASAP.

It’s time to share some fabulous engagement sessions before wedding season is in full swing!! To celebrate this, I’ve decided to start a new theme for Monday blog posts! It’s called “marry me monday”…whaddya think?? Cheesy? Cute? Super fun-tastical?? I’ll go with the super fun-tastical! I’ll be showcasing engagements, weddings and anything wedding related. First up, it’s Bethany and Paul! We had such a great time exploring the area of Normal Heights and then a whimsical wander through the forest. Paul brought out his guitar to finish out our amazing afternoon. Hope you enjoy their session!!
